Recognition of Prior Learning for Work Placements

Students sometimes make requests for recognition of prior work experience, which they want credited towards the work experience requirements of their degree. When such experience fits within the work experience requirements for the BSc(Tech) or BE(Hons) degrees, recognition of prior learning (RPL) may be approved.

Recognition of prior learning is based on the production of evidence that the work experience was relevant to the programme of study, and that meaningful learning occurred. The work experience also must be relatively recent - typically within the last 5 years.

The evaluation of the prior learning is based on the production of a portfolio of evidence.

Science and Engineering students who believe they may be eligible for RPL should discuss their experience with the Director of Cooperative Education.
