About Nichola

Nichola's expertise lies in the design of products to diagnose and treat health conditions in both animals and humans. Of Ngāpuhi descent, Nichola brings together her understanding of mātauranga Māori and western scientific principles as a tool to achieve a greater vision for innovation in the health and agribusiness sectors.

Having experience as a researcher in the social sciences, and previously having worked as an archaeologist and museum curator prior to embarking on a career in the biomedical space, Nichola brings a unique perspective to research project design. After completing a PhD in Biomedicine at the University of Waikato, Nichola completed two postdoctoral fellowships in the functional food research space, prior to her appointment as the Chief Scientist in an animal health company. Most recently Nichola has been employed in an MBIE-funded role as a commercial advisor working with a small iwi trust in the Bay of Plenty, and as a commercial manager for the University.

In addition to being an active member of the biomedical cluster of researchers at the University of Waikato, Nichola continues to provide a commercial interface between researchers and industry for the University.
