Major Research Facilities Accessible Through WaiCAM

Materials processing facilities:

TEx2

  • Cold and hot isostatic presses
  • medium scale high energy mechanical milling machine for processing kilogram amount powders
  • laboratory scale high energy ball mills
  • medium scale atomiser for producing kilogram amounts of metal powders
  • plastic and powder injection moulding machine
  • plastic extruder
  • metal casting facilities including an induction furnace and a casting simulation software.
  • furnaces: including controlled atmosphere tube furnaces and vacuum tube furnaces with working temperature up to 1650oC.

Materials characterisation and testing facilities:

LSL.G.06.1

  • X-ray diffractormeter (XRD)
  • Scanning electron microscope (SEM)
  • Thermal analysis instruments (DSC, DTA/TGA)
  • Laser particle size analyser
  • Instron and Lloyds tensile and fatigue testing machines, capable of high temperature testing up to 1000oC.
