Our degrees are unique in design, internationally recognised and are offered in a vocationally safe, caring and stimulating environment. We offer a range of qualifications from undergraduate degrees which are valued for their general excellence in education and training, to master degrees which are tailored to provide great career opportunities or can lead well-performed graduates on to doctoral study. See below for more information.

In addition to our degrees, we also offer undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate certificates and diplomas

Bachelor of Science

The Waikato Bachelor of Science (BSc) equips you for a career that requires logical thinking, analytical talent, a curious mind and practical skills. This degree takes you anywhere.

Bachelor of Science (Technology)

The Bachelor of Science (Technology) (BSc(Tech)) was the first degree of its kind in New Zealand and offers a unique approach to study. The BSc(Tech) is a flexible, job-oriented degree, which provides you with the necessary practical experience to bridge the gap between study and the workplace.

Bachelor of Engineering with Honours

The Waikato Bachelor of Engineering with Honours (BE(Hons)) is the degree for inventors and big thinkers who move instinctively from having an idea to making it happen. It is designed as the basis for a professional career in engineering and there is plenty of opportunity for practical application of skills in real work situations.

The University of Waikato's Faculty of Science & Engineering offers undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate certificates and diplomas in science and engineering.

Bachelor of Science(Hons)

An Honours degree offers students a rewarding experience and differentiation in the job-market.

Master of Environmental Sciences

The Master of Environmental Sciences (MEnv.Sci) is a new interdisciplinary degree that offers practical research skills and advanced theoretical knowledge alongside the chance to study a combination of environmentally-themed science papers in the areas of ecology, geochemistry, analytical chemistry, and Earth sciences.

Master of Science

Master of Science (Research)

The MSc (Research) is an internationally-recognised qualification, valued for it's flexibility and general excellence in education and training.

Master of Science (Technology)

A MSc(Tech) is normally a two year coherent, advanced programme of study building on the specialisation of the BSc(Tech) degree, which combines taught papers with an applied or industrial based research thesis or dissertation. The programme includes two papers on industrial technology and innovation.

Master of Engineering

This research-focused degree is designed for graduates who wish to further their knowledge of the innovative research methodologies required in industry, and for professional engineers who wish to upskill in new areas related to their work. Excellence in advanced engineering design, research and development skills are core features of the degree.

Master of Philosophy

The MPhil degree is solely a research degree, designed to recognise an original contribution to knowledge that is normally presented as a thesis. It is intended to be the product of one year of full-time research.

Doctor of Philosophy

This is the premier research degree and is a critical part of the career of any professional scientist. The degree normally takes 3 years of full-time study. It is the highest degree awarded by the University for research that is carried out under the supervision of staff members.
